Purposeful Practice #1: The Power of Spending TIME IN NATURE

Hopefully, you all had a chance to take a break from the ‘busy-ness’ of life over the Holidays. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to stop and enjoy life? We can get so ‘trapped’ in the rat race sometimes… buzzing, running, worrying, panicking… can’t we?

So, wherever you are in the world, I hope that, in these past few weeks, you spent some time in nature. Nope! No excuse my friend!… even if you live downtown Calgary or New York – there are parks all around that allow EVERYONE to ‘take a break’. Even if it is 15 minutes per day – you have NO EXCUSE for not giving this high-quality treatment to your body, to your mind! It is matter of priorities and commitments…

Doesn’t it feel awesome to take a day for ourselves?

…to do nothing, but what WE want to do?

.

What if this great feeling of peace and replenishment was something you could benefit ALL YEAR ROUND? Sleep, visit with friends, watch a good movie, play, eat, take a bath, go for a walk… whenever you want? Wherever you want?

… all of these practices are dear to Doug and I. We’ve included them all in our lifestyle. This was part of our dream…

.

What if Christmas was the GIFT itself that
you could treat yourself with?
… The gift of

REST, RELAXATION, STRESS-FREE… TIME for yourself?

.

One step further on your walk:

We invite you to make your sacred time in nature purposeful – open your heart, listen to the messages of God through Nature…

During our walk today, two deer appeared on our path… (we saw three of them yesterday: a mama and her two little ones) and a white OWL! What did God want to remind us as we walked, our hearts wide open to life, to love…?

Deer – ‘Deer… so gentle and loving you are’
Owl – ‘Owl… does the truth emerge? Be aware of deception and see clearly’.

.

  • MAKING THIS PRACTICE A PART OF ‘YOUR’ LIFE:

I am committing to spend time in nature daily:

I will take time each day to flirt with Mother Nature.

I will make it a habit to detour by the park on my way back home, so that I can enjoy a walk or a run.

ADDITIONAL INSIGHTS ON THIS TOPIC:

 Jan. 3, 2010 – Nature talk – don’t miss the birds!

On our walk today, we saw a herd of Lamas (ok, behind a fence ;-) ) … and a coyote!

I find it interesting that ‘birds’, that are all around us, don’t create this same sense of excitement. They are so popular that we almost miss them while we look for the deer, the moose, the bear…

What else do we miss in life that is right in front of our nose

and we keep looking for ’something else’??

Jan. 4, 2010 – Nature walk – or excuses!
Minus 10, windy, slight snow – our time in nature was a 45-minute run today. When we arrived home, I realized how good my body and mind felt despite a frosted nose and frozen knees. It sure is easy to find excuses NOT go out in these kind of temperatures. Will you let the weather control your life and take you off your commitment to yourself?

aaaahhhh, fresh air and sunshine today and REALLY, REALLY cold :) ) It is so incredibly bright here with the abundance of snow and light from the sun. Wow. My time in nature today is so appreciated, a FULL 5 minutes :) and a very packed 5 minutes…..the joy of hearing the “crunch’ from the snow under my shoes, reminding me of the blessings of being grounded …. the lightness of the color white of snow surrounding me, reminding me of the infinite expansion of my inner light…..
and the refreshing breath of the gift of fresh air, reminding me that I am present, I am alive and this life truly is a GIFT.

Thank you for the gift of purposeful practice… time in nature!
