In November last year, Doug and I were in Las Vegas. If you’ve been there before, you know that there are “Wedding Chapels” everywhere…
Well, in my family, I am known for not doing things ‘the traditional way’… During our time in Vegas, I pointed out some “Wedding Chapels” a few times, jokingly playing with the thought of getting married on this trip… until Doug looked at me and said “You know that I would marry you, don’t you?”
My heart barely made it to the next beat… and it is at that time that I realized that, while Doug did his “dance” (I love you – but I’m not ready for a relationship) at the beginning of our relationship, my joking around ‘marriage’ was my own form of dance. I was indeed afraid of getting married.
We were both totally in love, yet aware of and feeling our fears about ‘going there’ again… We want to make this work, yet at this point in our life, we’ve both connected with our issues around trust.
7 months later, we were exchanging our vows on the top of a mountain overlooking Radium, BC.
I have experienced many times the suffering that is generated from a place of indecision and/or hesitation. Today, I said YES to our relationship with my whole heart! As a result, my soul has never felt so much at peace… relaxed… and safe.
I realized how many people (including myself!) are afraid of the “Commitment” that comes with marriage. Yet, it has nothing to do with committing to another – the real block is when it comes to commit to our own peace, success and happiness!
Many people fear marriage because they think that, once they’ve ‘done it’, they’ll be ‘trapped’. In the right frame of heart, marriage brings nothing but peace, fulfillment and a sense of security (for you ladies) and purpose (for you men).
I am so delighted to have expressed my commitment to my wonderful man on this day, June 23rd, 2008 – on the 1-year anniversary of our meeting. It feels so good – my wish is that every single being on this planet get to experience the Power of Love on this level – with a FULLY open heart!
